Daitya
Individual Daityas obtain enormous power through austerity — the tradition is emphatic that their strength is earned by genuine discipline, often rewarded with a boon that is then exploited through a loophole — and use it to displace the gods from heaven, whereupon an avatar or a stratagem is required to restore the order.
Vetala
In some tellings a Vetala can be commanded once captured or bested, granting boons or answers to whoever holds power over it, though the terms and extent of this vary across sources.
