Ao Ao

This fearsome beast appears at first glance to be a typical ovine, with a woolly coat and the general silhouette of a domesticated sheep.

Brag

The trick at the center of its character is misplaced trust — a traveler takes it for the ordinary farm animal it appears to be, and the brag then misleads its rider into trouble, ending the joke with a triumphant horse-laugh.

Tarbh Uisge

The water bull leaves the loch by night to run with grazing herds, and calves born with short or half ears were held to be its offspring — and were often killed at once, to forestall the bad luck such uncanny stock could bring, a custom the compendia record alongside the belief itself.

Dunnie
