The boraro belong to the mythology of the Tukano peoples of the Amazon, and their name is understood to mean the white ones — a reference to their pallid skin. The recorded description is unusually specific for a forest monster: they are tall and humanoid, with hairy chests, glowing red eyes, ears that jut outward, an enormous phallus, and legs with no knees ending in feet that point backward. The backward feet are the practical heart of the design, since a track that seems to lead away from a boraro in fact leads toward it. They announce themselves with a roar likened to a jaguar's.

They are hunters of people, and the tellings preserve their method in detail. A boraro carries weapons of stone and tracks solitary travelers in the forest; to bring down its prey it either beats the victim with those weapons or urinates on them, which is itself incapacitating in the tradition. Once the victim is helpless, the boraro chews a hole in the top of the skull and sucks the internal organs out through it, leaving the body outwardly whole. The creature is thus a predator of interiors — what it takes cannot be seen to be missing.
